Subject: Freedom of Information Request

Dear Mr Mortimer

Further to our acknowledgement of 30th December 2013, I am writing to provide the Council’s response to your enquiry.

Please will you kindly tell me what the (a) gender and (b) familial relationship was to the child victim of offenders in substantiated child abuse cases in the area which you have a duty to protect children from abuse for the last full year which figures are available, broken down by (i) physical abuse, (ii) emotional abuse, (iii) sexual abuse and (iv) cases of neglect.

The number of children subject of a child protection plan for the 2012-13 financial year are as follows:

Male
226

Female
188

Total
414

Emotional
222

Neglect
114

Physical
53

Sexual
25

We are unable to provide you with information in relation to familial relationship between the child and the offender as we do not hold the information in a way that would enable us to easily extract this information. It would require a manual check of all records to identify this information which would take in excess of the18 hour threshold allowed by the FOI Act to do this.

Yours sincerely

Catherine Boyce
