Subject: Request for Information About Residence Orders

Dear Mr Mortimer,

I am writing in response to your e-mail of 6 June 2006 in which you asked for certain information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, specifically: " I know there were 167,193 divorce petitions filed in 2004 and there were 115,496 section 8 orders.

What I would like to know is out of the 115, 496 section 8 orders, how many (A) mothers and (B) fathers were given residence of their children by the courts in 2004".

My investigation has established that we do not hold information on how many mothers or fathers were given residence of their children. County Courts do not enter this information into the court database systems. Family Proceeding Courts record data on manual forms, but these forms do not contain details about mothers or fathers.

Yours sincerely
Lance Casey
