Subject: Freedom of Information Request

Dear Ian Rush,

Please will you kindly tell me what the (a) gender and (b) familial relationship was to the child victim of offenders in substantiated child abuse cases in Cheshire for the last full year which figures are available, broken down by (i) physical abuse, (ii) emotional abuse, (iii) sexual abuse and (iv) cases of neglect.

What I mean by substantiated child abuse cases are those who have been taken through the criminal justice system & found guilty of a child abuse offence. What I mean by child is those under the age of 18 years of age. What I want is information on the perpetrators of child abuse. I am not asking for any information about the child victims.

Yours Sincerely

David Mortimer

Subject: FOI Request 807581

Dear Mr Mortimer

Freedom of Information Request 807581.

Further to your recent request for information, I am responding following information provided to me by our Children & Families Service.

Regrettably, it will not be possible to provide the level of information you require within the 18-hour time limit allowed for in FOI legislation. I have been advised that to extract the information would entail a manual search through individual records and case notes, thus being a considerable diversion of staff away from their normal day-to-day duties.

However, if it is of interest to you, we could provide the numbers of Section 47 (of the Children Act 1989) investigations substantiated by the type of abuse. If you would like us to do this, please let me know and I will notify the department.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review under the Freedom of Information Act you should write to the Compliance Unit, Cheshire East Council, Westfields, Middlewich Road, Sandbach, Cheshire, CW11 1HZ.

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely

Martin Johnson
